Assignment 2

Task 1a

In this picture I used layering to add a couple of images to make the one picture in Photoshop. To add layers in Photoshop go to file, open, select the image you want to use and open it. When it opens use the move tool () to move it from that window to the image you want to add the layer to.

In this image I also made use of the blending tool, to blend images into the background right-click on the layer you would like to blend, click blending options and set the opacity to your desired percentage.

Also in this image I had to increase the size of the background image, to increase the size first make sure the correct layer is selected then go to edit, transform and then scale. After doing this set the image to the size you want it to be, it may look distorted but don’t worry because as soon as you’re finished scaling the image click on the tick at the top of the window and this should remove all distortion.

Lastly in this I cropped some of the layers, to crop layers select crop on the toolbar, select what you want to crop and click on the tick in the top tool bar to save changes (the tick is in the same place as where it was when resizing images).

I used invert to make this picture seem negative, to invert a picture go to Image, Adjustments and select Invert (or just press Ctrl+i)

In this picture I used rotate to rotate the wine bottle, to rotate images go to Edit, Transform and select Rotate. Rotate the layer you have selected to your preferred position and click the tick in the top tool bar (the tick is in the same place as where it was for resizing and cropping images).

Task 1B
Image 1
The first thing I did was I scanned this image in from a magazine which I would use for a background for the image.

I then added this picture which I took with a digital camera as a layer to the image

I deleted parts of the image that I didn’t need and made the picture more transparent to try to make the glasses see-through.

I then scanned the biscuits and the wine bottles in from a magazine and used them as layers to the image.

I cropped the pictures and resized them to a desired height.

I then added the title of the off-license to the image.

Image 2

I took this picture with a digital camera and used it as the background.

I then scanned this picture in from a magazine and added it as a layer

I deleted the background so I was left with the bottle.

I added an Invert effect to make the picture seem negative.

I then added the title of the off-license to the image.

Image 3

I thought I would reuse the picture I took for the second image as the background for my third image

I decided to crop the hand out of the picture.

I scanned this picture of a wine bottle in from a magazine so that I could use it as a layer.

I deleted the background of the wine bottle image and rotated it.

I then added the title of the off-license to the image.

Task 1c

I used Photoshop for creating the images as it is a very advanced form of photo editing software and it allows me to do much more to my images than any other form of photo editing software. The images are saved as Jpeg images as they use up little space and don't completely ruin the quality of the images. Compared to how the images were originally the colour depth and resolution is rather poor, this is because the images were scanned in from a magazine, this means that sadly image quality won't be as good as if the images were taken from a professional website. I used tools such as the magic wand tool to help remove parts of the background that I didn't need, I used this tool because it helped me deleted huge chunks of the background that I didn't need with out deleting parts that I did need. Another tool I used a lot throughout this task was the resize tool, the reason I used this so often was because the pictures all had different so I had to resize them so they all fitted properly. I had also used a filter to make my second image seem negative, the main reason I used this was to make the image stand out.

Task 2a

For a Part time job in an off-licence I was asked to create three original images to be used for attracting customers they are as follows:

Image 1

Image 2

Image3

When given for review the following could be said about each image:
Strengths of image 1
Background of the image looks nice wine bottles and cookies also look interesting. I think this is the best image of the three. Overall I think this one is fairly good since Adam is not very experienced.
Quality is good but not very suitable in general, only in few exceptional cases.

Weakness of image 1
This image is not realistic because the wine bottles are flying in the air along with rest of items. Also candles and bottles hide the bridge part of background image which makes it seem unrealistic.

Strengths of image 2
This image is very different from first one, I think that background and blue, green and while colours does look nice and suitable for the background. The combination of colours and background is definitely nice work and would be the strongest point of the image.
This image could be improved significantly and then could be suitable in a lot of cases. Quality also is okay but can be improved with professional hand.

Weakness of image 2
The blue wine bottle clearly looks fake and out of proportion on the labels sides. I don’t think there is any other visible weakness except that it doesn’t have natural colours.

Strengths of image 3

In my view this image isn’t very suitable for pretty much anything, but with right adjustments and perhaps colour change this image can be greatly improved and this image would be suitable in a lot of cases. I think this image is the worst out of three, however this was Adam’s first time so I strongly believe next time he would do much better.
Quality of the image looks is good.

Weakness of image 3

The biggest weakness of this image is the wine bottle on the left which doesn’t look to realistic and clearly has fake colour.

Task 2b

Taking into consideration of the review done of my three images I have picked one (image 2) and have chosen it as the final image. The image has been modified according to the weaknesses given by the reviewer:
It no longer has the dark blue wine bottle which the reviewer thought looked fake, the colour of the bottle has been replaced.
The label no longer looks out of proportion as I have decreased the size so it looks like it now fits on the bottle.
The image now has its natural colours which was the final weakness to be found in the image.
This is the final result:

The image has not used any copyright material as the image didn't come from any copywritten website and no copyright names have been used.
